Best Gun Setup for Call of Duty Black Ops
With Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War now getting a substantial number of updates, now it is finally time to look at the Best Cold War Guns and Class Setups. A lot of weapons have gotten nerf's, and it was necessary. Playing the early beta, and then the first week of the release, I was continually getting sprayed by MP5 players from unimaginable distances.

Weapons In Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War feature an extensive amount of customizations. All guns support up to five attachments; with Gunfighter wildcard, they extend to 8. Players can customize their guns from eight available categories. These include Optic, Muzzle, Barrel, Body, Underbarrel, Magzine, Handle, and finally, the stock. Each attachment category has further pieces of equipment that can be unlocked by only playing the game and leveling up.
Although Customization options in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War are vast, the guns' core stats remain the same. Class Setups expand the usual stats and add a different variety of playstyles. This is a beneficial and great feature because you can save suitable playstyles depending on the map and game mode.
For example, I have kept an extremely fast-paced Class Setup on the AK47u for maps like Moscow. While for a long-range oriented map like Satelite. I'm using an M16 class setup with a decent effective damage range.
Before we move on and look at the best Class Setups, it's imperative that we first consider the best weapons in the game. Afterward, we'll expand on these weapons and share the best classes we at exputer have come across.
Best Guns In Cold War
These weapons are picked based on their core stats. We have put forward three crucial factors while picking these guns.
- Shots To Kill An Enemy.
- Subsequent Damage at 25 meters range (this is the adequate range for fighting in Black Ops Cold War Maps).
- Time To Kill (TTK).
Note that there aren't any sniper rifles or lightweight machine guns because they aren't suitable in most gameplay scenarios. Either way, they aren't the best weapons in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War either.
Although KSP has a significantly better shot-to-kill ratio than all other Submachine guns, this doesn't necessarily mean it's a better gun. The KSP 45 is a 3-round burst submachine gun with high damage but lacks all sorts of other features.
AK47 Assault Rifle
Unlike Modern Warfare, where AK47's recoil was a nightmare. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War has perfected AK47 stats, and right now, after the 1.06 update, it's easily the best weapon in the game. AK47 in Cold War features 38 Damage, which is the highest for an assault rifle. 600 RPM Firerate, and a relatively slower bullet velocity of 490 m/s. The specialty of the AK-47 in the Black Ops Cold War is that its damage is very consistent at 25 meters range. The is one of the many best cold war guns right now in the game.
M16 Tactical Rifle
Despite being nerfed in the 1.06 update, M16 tactical rifle remains the king of burst weapons in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. If you solid reflexes and can land the first burst on the enemy's chest or head, you can completely melt the enemy. It's useful for both medium and long-range; the accuracy is always spot on.
AK-74u
One of the most prominent and incredibly overlooked guns in the Black Ops Cold War is the AK-74u. This gun can easily compete with its rival MP5, and in some instances, it is even better. The specialty of AK-74u SMG lies in its remarkable damage and bullet velocity. In close range and medium-range, the headshot multiplayer can completely melt the opponent. Other than that, its recoil pattern is very easy to adapt.

MP5
MP5, without any doubt, remains the king of submachine guns. The gun was very overpowerful in the game's first few weeks, but now Activision has nerfed it. It still holds to its reputation, and in close range or maps where you look forward to fast-paced gameplay. MP5 SMG, with its jaw-dropping fire rate, will always make to best weapons of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.
AUG
Although some would criticize AUG's position here, I genuinely think not many players have not given this gun a choice. Comparing its rival burst weapon, M16, AUG has slightly better damage, bullet velocity, and effective damage range. The only thing it lacks is that the movement is generally slower while shooting, and it's burst fire rate is marginally low. Other than that, AUG tactical rifle is in a league of its own.
Best Class Setups In Cold War
Over here at exputer, we have researched thoroughly and tested dozens of class setups. The ones below are, without a doubt, the best ones in the game right now. We highly recommend leveling up all guns to unlock the attachments because most of the equipment mentioned below are from a higher level. Other than that, secondary firearms, tactical, perks, and wildcards do not impact core stats; thus, go with whatever you like.
MP5 Class Setup
MP5 is mostly useful in maps like Moscow, where the combat range is 10-15 meters. You can attach up to 5 equipment, and Optic is personnel preference. I don't prefer Optics because they do not enhance stats; likewise, I can adjust that one extra slow elsewhere. If you prefer using Optics, go with the gunfighter wildcard.
Muzzle – Agency Suppressor
This piece of equipment can really come in handy because, unlike Flashguard 9, sound suppressor, or infantry compensator, Agency Suppressor increases Muzzle Flash Concealment by 100%.
Barrel – Reinforced Heavy
The Agency Suppresor's only drawback was that it reduced effective damage range. Luckily, Reinforced Heavy will come to the rescue and balance out Effective Damage Range by an 18% Increase. Other than that, it's also going to increase the bullet velocity by 80%, adjusting it at 450 m/s. In order to turn a weapon from ordinary into the league of best cold war guns, this is very important, principally because Bullet Velocity in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is extremely slow.
MP5 Underbarrel – Foregrip
This was very easy to pick, essentially because all other foregrips have some downsides, while this only improves Horizontal Recoil Control.
MP5 Magzine – 40 RND Speed Mag
Unlike its rival SAS Mag Clamp, the 40 RND Drum not only provides improvements across three departments, but it also has unnoticeable drawbacks.

MP5 Handle – Airborne Elastic Wrap
Compared with other MP5 handles, the Airborne Elastic Wrap provides better improvements. It increases the Flinch Resistance by 90%, Aim down Sight Time by 30%. The shooting move speed and sprint fire time are reduced, but only slightly.
AK-74U Class Setup
For configuring the best AK-74U Class Setup, we need first to get the Gunfighter Wildcard. This unlocks additional three slots for attachments. Once done, you can copy the class setup from below.
Muzzle – KGB Eliminator
The AK-74U has a lot of vertical recoil; therefore, it requires the KGB Eliminator Muzzle. This improves the vertical recoil control by 17% and enhances the Muzzle Flash Concealment by 85%. The KGB Eliminator drawbacks are a 10% reduction in both Horizontal Recoil Control and Shooting Move Speed. Don't worry a lot about the Horizontal Recoil Control because it's barely noticeable. The same goes for the Shooting Move Speed.
AK-74U Barrel – 10.3″ Task Force
The Task Force barrel significantly improves the Firepower components, including Damage, Effective Range, and Bullet Velocity. These three components are the most adequate features of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Combat. Other than that, it slightly impacts the Vertical and Horizontal Recoil, but don't worry because we will cancel these negatives in the next upgrades.
Body – Steady Aim Laser
There's always a bit of debate whether Steady Aim Laser even has any impact on combat. Well, If I'm honest, for the bigger combat rifles, the answer is no. However, if you are attaching it to a smaller weapon, that will only come in handy in close range. It is entirely worth it and can turn a weapon from ordinary into the league of best cold war guns, and that's all because of its advantage over providing additional Hip Fire Accuracy.
Underbarrel – Spetsnaz Grip
Although Foregrip would be a better fit here, mainly because it has no disadvantages. The Spetsnaz Grip excels in its ability to provide better improvements across not one but two departments, Vertical and Horizontal Recoil Control. This is also being used to balance out the negative aspects of the 10.3″ Task Force.
Magazine – VDV 50 RND Fast Mag
The 50 RND Fast Mag is just what we need in our best AK-74u class setup. It provides incredible improvements across all Ammo departments. The Ammo and Magazine Capacity is increased by 67%, while Reload Quickness also sees a 40% boost.
Handle GRU Elastic Wrap
The Handle is once again the GRU Elastric Wrap. In SMG's, a 90% flinch resistance and 30% aim Down Sight Time are all you need.
Stock – KGB Skeletal Stock
The last piece of equipment to perfectly balance our Best AK-74 Class Setup is KGB Skeletal Stock. This helps in providing extra speed assistance by increasing Sprint to Fire Time by 30% and Aim Walking Movement Speed by 10%.
AK47 Class Setup
Optic: The Optic choice narrow's down to personnel preference. Go with whatever suits your playstyle and is clear to see through. I personally like the Microflex LED, or other times, I'll go with Sillix Holoscout in maps like Satelite. Anyhow, here's the best AK47 Class Setup in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.
Barrel – 18.2″ VDV Reinforced
We are going to skip on the muzzle because they provide zero to no value, and for AK47, we can't miss on the Optic. Subsequently, for the Barrel, we will go with the 18.2″ VDV Reinforced. This is perhaps the best Barrel in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War For AK-47. It provides a 100% increase in Effective Damage Range, ultimately resulting in additional damage within 76.2 meters. It also adds 40% bullet velocity, which I explained before has high importance.
Underbarrel – Foregrip
Depending on your playstyle, you can go with both Foregrip and Infiltrator Grip. The Foregrip is suitable in situations where you are not able to cope with the recoil. Likewise, the Infiltrator Grip would adjust in fast-paced gameplay, as it provides enhancements to Movement, Shooting, and Aim Walking Speeds. Both attachments have their uses and can make your weapons shine in the field, ultimately turning them into the best cold war guns.
Magazine – VDV 50 Rnd Fast Mag
The DVD 50 Rnd Fast Mag, undoubtedly, fulfills the Magazine slot. It provides 67% Ammo Capacity, Magazine Ammo Capacity, and Ammo Capacity increase. Moreover, it also increases the reload quickness to 1.7s. You will also note the 25% decrease in Aim Down Sight Time, but it's no big deal because we'll adjust it through the handle.
Handle – GRU Elastric Wrap
Again, the GRU Ellastric Wrap will be our primary choice for the handle. This provides 90% flinch Resistance and 30% Aim Down Sight Time.
All in all, this is how the stats for Best AK47 Class Setup in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War rack up.
M16 Class Setup
Barrel: 20.5″ – Task Force
Once again, we will be using the 20.5 Task Force Barrel. The main reason is that we want an increase in Bullet Velocity and Effective Damage Range. With Task Force, the M16 gets a 50% Bullet Velocity and Effective Damage Range increase. Likewise, damage is also increased by 14%. This attachment's drawbacks are reduction in both Vertical and Horizontal Recoil control, which doesn't matter much in a burst weapon.
M16 Underbarrel – Field Agent Foregrip
If you plan on using M16, one of the best cold war guns, in maps like Moscow, which is unlikely because that's strictly an SMG map. You can go with the Infiltrator Grip because it adds tons of improvements across the speed category. However, if you are like me, and want to use M16 in 10-25 meters, go with either the front grip or Field Agent Foregrip. I personally like the Field Agent Foregrip because it kind of makes up for the Barrel 20.5 drawbacks.
Handle for M16 – Airborne Elastic Wrap
Once again, we will use the Airborne Elastric Wrap. This will increase Flinch Resistance by 90% and Aim Down Sight Time by 30%. Both are highly important for burst weapons like M16.
Stock – SAS Combat Stock
Instead of using a magazine, which is highly unnecessary for a burst weapon, we will use the SAS Combat Stock. This makes up for Airborne Elastric Wrap drawbacks while still providing a 78% Increase in Aim Walking Movement Speed. In case you don't know what this is, well, with Aim Walking Movement speed, you are tough to hit, and at the same time, you can sort of use a rifle like an SMG.
After following all the class setup customizations suggested above, here is how your M16 Stats should rack up.
Best AUG Class Setup
Barrel – 18″ Rapid Fire
Unlike the M16, we aren't going to use the Task Force Barrel for AUG. That is mainly because AUG's bullet velocity and Effective Damage range are already up to the mark. Instead, we are going to use the 18″ Rapid Fire, which will further enhance its burst fire and help us get kills in the first burst through the addition of a 13% Fire rate.
Underbarrel – Foregrip
We are going to skip on Muzzle, magazine, and body. The primary reason being that they do not add any significant improvements and also have noticeable drawbacks. For Underbarrel, though, we can go with both SFOD Speedgrip and Front Grip. The SFOD is better for faster-paced gameplay, while Front Grip, in general, is recommended for all scenarios.
AUG Handle – Airborne Elastic ap
When setting up the best AUG Class Setup, we must take the exclusive benefit of "Aim while going prone." This can make a difference in a lot of combat situations. Other than that, having the extra benefits of 90% Flinch resistance increase and 30% Aim Down Sight Time aren't bad either.
AUG Stock – SAS Combat Stock
Having stock on burst weapon is highly important because it can assist with improved movement speeds. In AUG's case, there are only two choices that would make to Best Class Setup. It's either the Raider Pro or SAS Combat Stock. The Raider pro con's include a 30% Reduction in Hip Fire Accuracy, which is a lot. The advantages being 30% Increase in Sprint to Fire Time, and 40% In Aim Walking Movement Speed. Subsequently, the SAS Combat stock only reducts 15% from the Hip Fire Accuracy while benefiting the gun with 50% Aim and 10% Shooting Movement Speed.
Adding all these important pieces of equipment will result in stats improvements like this and can make your weapon one of the best cold war guns.
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Class Setup Thoughts And Takeaways
Generally, though, all the above class setups should fulfill your needs in all sorts of modes. However, I still recommend that if you are comfortable with a specific gun or perhaps even sniping. Stick to it, and do not bother changing. The only reason I would recommend changing from your current setup to this would be incase of not getting kills and feeling uncertainty.
The class setups and customization options in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War are vast. Finding the key attachments that can balance and cancel out each other's drawbacks is what you should be looking at. For example, if you get an Underbarrel and it reduces the movement speed. You should cancel out its flaws by attaching a stock. Besides, whenever you are setting up your class setup, you should have a goal in mind, whether you want a fast gun for close range with a good fire rate or something that will work in 20-2 meters with better effective damage range.
Last but not least, if you are worried about not having these attachments. There are always alternatives with similar stats. However, the better thing would be that you start to play on the gun the lacks attachments because the new upgrade meta is all about just playing the game.
In our review, we rated Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War a solid 4, describing it as a "Solid Prospect" with potential greatness.
Update 1: The Season 1 update was out today, and as of yet these classes and weapons are still the best. If there were more updates and changes in the weapons, we'll update this article.
